You can’t hope for a better debut at the 24h of the Le Mans
then this: At their very first start at the French endurance classic, the Young
Driver AMR-Aston Martin DBR9 of Christoffer Nygaard (DK), Tomas Enge (CZ) and
Peter Kox (NL) claimed the pole–position in the GT1-class. Tomas Enge was the
quickest driver in the GT1-class and scored in the Young Driver-Aston Martin
his sixth pole in the GT1-class at Le Mans.
The qualifying time of Enge, set in the first qualifying
session on Wednesday, was unbeaten in the final qualifying session on Thursday.
The Young Driver AMR-team wasn’t looking for best times in Thursdays final qualifying
sessions and concentrated on working on the set-up for the race. Driving duties
were on Tomas Enge only, the former Formula 1-driver completed nine laps on the
epic 13.629 meter long track. Starting driver in the Young Driver-Aston Martin in
the 78. Edition of the 24h of Le Mans will be Peter Kox. Before the start of
the race Saturday at 15.00 o’clock, there is a huge workload on the Young
Driver AMR-team. As there is no practise scheduled for Friday, the team will
disassemble the car and check all relevant parts in preparation for the race.
”It’s just fantastic to be quickest again in the GT1-class“,
Tomas Enge was happy after qualifying. "But really more important is that we
found good set-up for the race, so we are quite optimistic.“
"Our week at Le Mans was just perfect so far“, team
principal Hardy Fischer was pleased with the results. ”To start from the class
pole in our very first start at Le Man is just great. The pole in a 24h race is
not that important, but for sure it feels good to have it. But with the race
now in front of us, the biggest challenge is still to come.“
